Brief: Analyse an award winning design from the 2010 AIDA.
I was given the illy XGI to analyse. The XGI is a home espresso machine, it has very functional design principals. At a glance it seems rather monolithic however there are elements that are used to create harmony between the two seemingly overpowering rectilinear forms. The floral decal, which is the flower of coffee Arabica creates harmony between the two bold forms. The designers from Rezzonico design have successfully created an elegant product which adheres to the design principals.
I learnt a lot about design analysis, coming to the conclusion that the very first reactions are as valuable as deeper observations.
