design for life

Design for life sees 12 design students competing against each other in a reality television show much like the apprentice. Each week these students are given creative tasks and the weakest is eliminated, and the winner is given the opportunity to join Starck's team in Paris. 

I think that this show has been over hyped, in some ways i thought that this was used as a promotional tool for Starck, however i thought that this show was very lack luster, the contestants were often confused by the tasks, and did not know what to do or how to approach them. However i thought the aim of these tasks was to broaden their design knowledge, through a more abstract thought process. Starck explains that:

'you don't make good design if you think about design, you make good design if you speak about life, sex, flesh, sweat.'

I did not like the majority of the designs that were presented, i thought the designers would have been of a higher caliber, an improved selection process might have helped ( designers were hand picked based on hand drawn concepts no names no gender).
